Residence Hall Amenities

Our residence halls are conveniently located in the heart of campus, close to shopping, galleries, restaurants, natural areas, and historic attractions.

With over 6,700 beds in fifteen residence halls, we provide summer housing and food service for conference groups of all sizes. Our halls range in size from 50 to 1,150 beds, allowing you to match accommodations to the size, nature, and needs of your group.

The residence halls have modern, simply furnished, air-conditioned rooms suitable for either single or double occupancy. Each room is equipped with single beds with pillows and bed linens, dressers or shelving, bookcase, desks, desk chairs, and a small refrigerator.

For your convenience, data jacks are available in every room. Cable jacks in each room are also active in case you choose to bring your own television. Wireless access is available in floor lounges and dining areas. Laundry facilities, vending and ice machines are located in most buildings. Lounges provide televisions and a casual social area. For the comfort of all guests, all campus buildings are smoke-free.

Bathroom Facilities

Typically, men and women are housed on separate floors with shared bath facilities for each gender. Bathrooms are spacious with separate individual showers and dressing areas for privacy. The Friedrick Center has rooms with private bathrooms for our adult guests. The bathroom facilities in Smith Hall serve two to three guest rooms located adjacent and the bathroom facilities in Ogg Hall serve four guest rooms located adjacent.

Housekeeping

Room service and linen service are available to suit a variety of guest's needs and budgets. Adult group rates include daily room service to refresh towels, make beds, and empty trash. For youth groups, we offer more economical packages with varying degrees of room service.

Desk Services

Whether you're traveling to Madison as a new destination or returning to this dynamic city, our friendly staff will provide prompt service. A service desk will be available while you are with us on campus. Desk hours vary based on the residence hall building structure. Most adult groups will have a 24-hour desk available inside the residence hall. Desk services and sales items include:

• Alarm clocks
• Cables for Internet and television connections ($6.00 per cable)
• Guest room keys
• Irons/ironing boards
• Laundry cards for self-laundry facilities
• Laundry soap
• Mail distribution
• Phone message service
• Postage stamps
• Reading lights
• Recreation equipment

Telephones

Telephones are provided in common areas. On-campus and local calls can be made free of charge. Long distance calls must be made with a calling card. Pre-paid cards are available for purchase at the hall desks.

Televisions

There are television lounges throughout the residence halls for your convenience. Guest rooms are cable-ready. For those guests who bring their own televisions and coaxial cables, Cable TV is provided at no additional charge. Computer Access

If you bring your own computer, you can connect to the Internet through wired access in the privacy of your guest room at no additional charge. For instructions regarding wired Internet service connection, please see our Conference Services Technology Guide.

Wireless access points can be found in all residence hall common areas (meeting rooms, lounges, study rooms, etc.). For a list of Housing "hot spots", please check the ResNet Wireless site.

A technology learning center, which provides both PC and Mac computers, is available in some residence halls. Classroom hours or 24-hour access may be scheduled by the conference group coordinator.

Meeting Rooms and Audio-Visual Equipment

University Housing Conference Services has several meeting rooms available for use by our conference groups at no additional charge. To make room reservations within University Housing facilities, please contact the Housing Conference Services Office.

Audio and visual equipment for University Housing residential conference programs is reserved through the Housing Conference Services Office. Equipment can be reserved for use in our residence halls and dining units as soon as your conference is confirmed with a signed letter of agreement with University Housing. Equipment use includes delivery of the equipment to your meeting room, set up and removal following your program. If you are in need of equipment troubleshooting for any equipment that you have reserved, please contact the Desk Services staff.

In most cases, there are no additional audio or visual fees for residential conference programs. Any fees for equipment that is lost, stolen, or damaged, will be the responsibility of the conference sponsor. Equipment requests are due a minimum of three weeks prior to your program.

The following audio equipment is available for residential conference groups:

• Boom boxes with radio, cassette tape and CD players
• Microphones (handheld, lapel; wired and wireless)
• Portable public address/sound systems for indoor use

The following video/projection equipment is available for residential conference groups:

• Data projectors (for computer-related presentations)
• DVD players
• Overhead projectors
• Slide projectors
• Televisions (various sizes)
• VCR units
• VCR/DVD combination units

The following additional equipment is available for residential conference groups:

• Dry-erase boards
• Chalk boards
• Easels for flip charts
• Extension cords
• Microphone stands
• Podiums (table top and floor)
• Power strips
• Screens
• Telephones (free local calls)
• Telephone line splitters
• Television carts

Conference groups may make arrangements to secure their own audio and visual equipment from outside sources. All costs, delivery, set up, removal, security, and any other arrangements related to the use of non-Housing equipment is the sole responsibility of the conference sponsor and organizers. University Housing does not assume any liability for equipment used for conference programs.

Please contact the Housing Conference Services Office for meeting room reservations and equipment arrangements. Reservations for meeting space and use of equipment are taken on a first come, first-served basis.

Parking

Parking is very limited on campus and within the city. Housing's residence halls do not have their own parking facilities. Arrangements for parking may be made by contacting your conference coordinator or the UW-Madison Transportation Services Office:
