Newly Admitted 2008-09
UW-Madison Students

No Application Required

New UW-Madison students who begin in the fall semester do not need to make a separate application for the University Residence Halls. Using the information provided to the Admissions Office, an application for the University Residence Halls is created for a student at the time of admission to the University. University Housing will continue to send contracts for 2008-09 as long as space remains available.

At the time assignments are made in late May, all returned housing contracts are randomly sorted by computer to rank students in the order they will be assigned to residence halls.

Students' room assignments depend upon the number of spaces available in their hall choices at the time their name is reached in the computerized random sort. All students have an equal chance of receiving their first hall choice. It is possible that some students may be assigned temporarily to a room in Expanded Housing if a large number of students are admitted and return contracts to live in the University Residence Halls.

Most students will receive their room assignments in June prior to the commencement of SOAR, the summer orientation program. Because University Housing receives as many as 300 cancellations during the summer, some students may receive an assignment later in the summer or just prior to the residence halls opening in August.

Spring 2008

Students who are admitted for Spring 2008 Semester need to complete a 2007-2008 housing application if they are interested in living in the University Residence Halls. Contracts are mailed based upon date of application and space availability.
