May 2020 – August 2023
Sellery Residence Hall, which opened in 1963, is a two-tower structure that is home to 1,150 residents in double rooms. The building is undergoing a major renovation over a three-year span to improve the resident spaces and upgrade the facilities.
In the plans, a new connecting link is being built to connect the two towers of Sellery on all floors, including new elevators and new floor lounges in this central section. New, expanded bathrooms will be created on each resident floor. A new resident floor will be added to the top of building to compensate for resident rooms that will be displaced by the renovations and to accommodate undergraduate enrollment growth. The first floor and basement levels will also see upgrades, with improved classroom, kitchen, and study spaces.
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems will be replaced, adding individual temperature controls in rooms and air conditioning throughout the building (including resident rooms). All windows will be replaced to make the building more energy-efficient.
Other updates planned in this project include updates to painting, flooring, and lighting throughout the resident floors and rooms.
Impacts on Residents for 2023-24
All major work for the Sellery renovation is expected to be complete before residents move in for the 2023-24 academic year. Some minor finishing work and touch-ups may continue into the Fall semester, with very little disruption to residents. We do not anticipate any major impacts for our students. Contractors will not be accessing resident living spaces during the academic year.
