About MSC Satellite
What is the MSC Satellite?The Multicultural Student Center (MSC) Satellite is a multi use space where all students are welcomed. The friendly atmosphere is a great place to study, attend a program, relax, or hang out when you need a break from the busy day. If you have questions regarding campus resources, housing, how to get involved, or multicultural issues, Satellite staff an Multicultural Resident Consultants or an LGBT liaisons is there to provide support and assistance. One of the primary goals of the MSC Satellite is to provide direct support to all students of color, international students, and LGBT students living in the residence halls. Our support is not limited to these constituents but extends to any other person who might feel marginalized on the UW campus. We also promote the use of our space to majority students as we are striving to build bridges of understanding and community through allies. The most common way in which we support our primary constituents is through our student staff. Satellite Staff work in the Satellite during the evening hours their jobs include but are not restricted to movie/book rentals, outreach and programming. MRC and LGBT liaisons also work in the MSC satellite hosting office hours for residents and staff. Our programs and opportunities, which are held weekly, allow members of the housing community to grow through fostering relationships across differences and increasing students’ understanding of the world. An MSC Satellite Newsletter is distributed monthly detailing program and event information. In addition the MSC Satellite maintains a variety of cultural resources, such movies, books, music, videos, DVD’s, and magazines that reflect an increasingly diverse society. The MSC Satellite is committed to supporting student organizations on campus who are providing similar support and programs for students. Several times a week student organizations and other campus partners host programs and meetings in our space. For more information about space availability, ask our Satellite Staff. The MSC Satellite is located at 717 w. Johnson in the Gordon Commons complex. The entrance is located on Lake Street under the bridge.
