LGBTQ Civil Rights Movement

The LGBTQ Civil Rights Movement 1960 - 1990: Exploring History and Current Consequences explored the political, social, and cultural history of the mid-twentieth century U.S. LGBTQ movement. This historical exploration provided a basis for consideration of issues and themes that extend to contemporary LGBTQ life in the U.S. and beyond.

Students from UW Madison, who participated in this course,traveled to Detroit, Washington D.C., and New York City on a ten-day exploration of historical sites. In these cities, students met with living leaders of the then nascent LGBTQ Civil Rights Movement and visit sites related to the movement. Events and organzations were explored from the 1960's, 1970's, 1980's and today.
