GreenHouse
Be part of of the inaugural year of the GreenHouse in 2010-11!
Be Part of the Solution
Do you want to help create and sustain a green community on campus? Do you look forward to living with people of diverse backgrounds? Would you like to get connected to social and environmental advocacy organizations on campus and in the community? Are you ready to participate actively in shaping the world around you? The GreenHouse is where you ought to be.
The GreenHouse in Cole Hall (located in the Lakeshore Neighborhood) was created to help set students on paths to finding sustainable solutions to social and environmental challenges. GreenHouse residents will join with faculty and staff to explore:
- food and agrifood systems
- conservation and biodiversity
- environmental justice
- green business, building, and design
Learn by Doing
You’ll be able to enroll in common courses with other GreenHouse residents. You’ll also have opportunities to share educational activities that engage all your senses, such as:
- growing your own food
- cooking and eating together
- canoeing the Wisconsin River
- maintaining the Ice Age Trail
"How do I get into the GreenHouse and choose a room assignment?"
- New students beginning in the fall do not need to submit an application for University Residence Halls; we automatically offer housing contracts to admitted students as long as space is available.
- Return your University Residence Halls contract and deposit by the due date.
- We will send you an e-mail, directing you to submit your hall preferences online.
- Select the GreenHouse as your top choice.
- Pay the Advance Payment bill that is sent in the spring.
- We will send you another e-mail with a link to our Rooms Online™ room selection system. The room selection period is in April, prior to the college choice and admission acceptance deadline.
- Log into the system and select your room for 2010–11!
Program Fee
The program fee for GreenHouse is $200. Based on the FAFSA you submit, you may qualify for a grant to cover some or the entire fee. For consideration, please e-mail us at AssignMe@housing.wisc.edu.
"I’m way jazzed to be the director of this newest learning community. I want the GreenHouse to be a place where all of us – faculty, staff, and students – use our hearts, hands and heads to explore what it might mean to live peacefully with each other, within the means of nature."
