Half Vacant Rooms
If your roommate leaves during the academic year, you should plan on being assigned a new roommate. One bed, bookshelf, closet, desk and dresser should be empty for a new roommate. Facilities staff will be entering the room to assess for any damages after your previous roommate has vacated. Be sure to check your wisc.edu email account for notification about a new roommate.
Double Rooms as Large Single Rooms
In most instances, if your roommate moves out of your room, you will get another roommate. However, there are times when we may be able to offer your room to you as a single room if your roommate moves out. Here is how the process works:
- You receive an email from the Assignment Office to your wisc.edu email account with the cost and timeline for securing your double room as a single room.
-
You indicate to us which option you choose be completing the attached form:
a. Retain and pay for your room as a Large Single room for the remainder of the academic year.
-or-
b. Keep your room as a Double room for the remainder of the academic year. You understand that a new roommate can be assigned at any time and you ensure that the room is ready for a new occupant. - If you agree to change your room to a Large Single room, charges for the adjustment will either appear on your next quarterly bill or a separate bill will be emailed to you if the fourth quarter bill has already been sent.
Note: The Division of University Housing reserves the right to change a room designated as a Large-Single back to a Double and assign another student to the room in the event an emergency displaces other residents from their rooms; room charges would be adjusted accordingly.
