Why Return to the University Residence Halls?

Each year, many students choose to return to the University Residence Halls. It's easy to see why:

  • Students repair a bicycle in Cole HallChoice: Our 18 residence halls in two distinct neighborhoods (lakeshore and southeast) offer a variety of living options for students
  • Connections: Students from 50 states and 54 countries/regions live in our residence halls, allowing students to form new perspectives and craft lifelong friendships
  • Activities: Last year alone residents planned over 3,500 activities, including trips to Chicago, campfires at Picnic Point, and sailing at the Memorial Union
  • Learning: Our residents get better grades because popular classes and convenient advising are offered right in residence halls; free tutoring is available, and our nine learning communities present unique academic opportunities
  • Stability: Students can count on predictable costs in University Residence Halls; they are only responsible for their own charges; if a roommate chooses not to return, charges for a remaining roommate remain the same
  • Privacy: As returning residents, students can choose to live in a single room by themselves
  • Friends: Groups of students can choose their room before signing a contract, allowing friends to be neighbors/roommates in our residence halls
  • A student outside Ogg Hall in the southeast neighborhoodLocation: University Residence Halls are close to classes and/or work, so our residents can sleep in, eat lunch at home, and walk or bike to destinations
  • Convenience: Our residents save time and have healthy options at our marketplace-style dining locations where they can dine-in or order carry-out/delivery online at reasonable prices
  • Service: Students living in residence halls appreciate their amenities, including on-site laundry facilities that can be monitored online, knowledgeable hall desk staff, 24-hour security systems, responsive cleaning & maintenance staff, cable HDTV, and high-speed wireless Internet
