If so, then you should know about an exciting Residence Hall option called Norden open to you at the University of Wisconsin-Madison! Located in the International Learning Community (ILC) in beautiful Adams Hall on the shores of Lake Mendota, a cluster of Nordic-speaking students will be joined by a graduate language coordinator.
What can I expect from Norden?
- If you are returning from or preparing for study abroad in Nordic countries, this is an excellent opportunity to use your Nordic language skills in everyday situations.
- If you are studying Norwegian, Swedish or Danish, you will find here a collegial atmosphere with special Nordic-oriented programming every week (films, lectures, games, current events material, regular meals with guests from the Scandinavian Languages Department, etc.).
- Please note that residents are required to enroll in a special one-credit course in Nordic culture designed
- specifically for the residents of “Norden.”
- In addition, “Norden” is part of the International Learning Community (ILC), a community of about 80 U.S. and International students living together in Adams Hall. The ILC program is dedicated to enriching crosscultural understanding through a variety of social and educational programs that focus on international issues and events.
What are the related costs associated with Norden?
Most students in the “Norden” receive a single room or large suite assignment (shared with a roommate). A limited number of double spaces may also be available. There is also an additional $200 feature charge to support the extra activities associated with the program.
