1. What does Limited Term Employment mean?

A: Limited Term Employment (LTE) is the phrase used in State employment for temporary employment.  This means that the position is not permanent and does not include the State sponsored benefits associated with permanent positions such as health insurance.  The length of LTE appointments cannot exceed a total of 1,043 hours worked in 26 consecutive pay periods.  Qualifications depend on the position you are interested in.

2. What LTE positions are available at University Housing?

A: All of University Housing’s current recruitments are posted on our website.

3. What LTE positions are available at UW-Madison?

A: All of UW-Madison's current recruitments are posted on UW-Madison's website.

4. How do I apply for a LTE position?

A: Complete the University Housing application.

5. Can I submit an application even if there is not currently an opening?

A: We accept LTE applications at all times. Due to the nature of temporary employment, we accept applications so in the event of the need for a temporary employee we have applications on hand to fill the void as quickly as possible.

6. Can temporary employment lead to permanent employment?

A: There is not guarantee or promise of permanent employment. Temporary employment can lead to permanent employment if the employee follows the instructions to apply for a permanent position when they occur. We do not have "temporary to permanent" positions.

7. What is the pay rate for a position?

A: The pay rate varies with the position. Pay rate will be addressed at the time of interview.

8. I have submitted an application, now what?

A: If there is currently a temporary position open in which you are qualified, your application will be referred out to the supervisor making the hire. The supervisor is then responsible for reviewing applications and scheduling interviews with applicants they are interested in. Your application can be referred out to more than one supervisor at a time, so it is possible to have multiple interviews in a short period of time.

9. How long do you keep my application on file?

A: 3 months.

10. Why should I become a LTE?

A: Many reasons, such as:

  • You can try out University Housing as an employer.
  • You will gain valuable work experience.
  • Since you are physically working within University Housing, you will often be among the first to know of new permanent employment recruitments.
