Welcome from the MLC Faculty Director

Dear Prospective Student:

I am Carl Grant, Faculty Director of the Multicultural Learning Community (MLC) in Witte Hall. I am a professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and Afro American Studies. My areas of scholarship and teaching are multicultural education and urban education as they are played out in a local, national and global context. I thoroughly ENJOY my experiences with students who live in the MLC.

I am writing to ask you to consider the opportunity to live in the MLC for Academic Year 2008-2009. Learning Communities are fantastic because they provide an opportunity for a group of similar minded (and sometime different minded) people to come together to explore common ideas. This coming together allows for gained knowledge and skills relevant to professional, social, political, and economic life in the 21 Century.

The Multicultural Learning Community is the kind of space you imagined and hoped college would be like: challenging, caring, respectful, and fun! It's a great place to begin a dynamic and wonderful collegiate experience. Check out our web site for more information www.housing.wisc.edu/mlc/.

If you would like to have a chance to become a part of the MLC, you need to indicate your interest in the MLC when you submit your Assignment Preference Information. If you have already submitted your preferences and wish to change your preferences to include the MLC, please login to the Online System at www.housing.wisc.edu/assignment/.

If you'd like more information about the MLC, please contact us by calling (608)-262-0564 or e-mailing raymond.neal@housing.wisc.edu.

Sincerely,

Carl Grant
