Ally Programs:
If you are someone who supports LGBT people and issues, and you are interested in getting more involved on campus, check out the Allies Program. This organization is working to raise awareness about LGBT issues across campus and provide opportunities for everyone to show their support of the queer community.
SAFE-ZONE
The program is the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Safe Zone Program that provides students who identify as an ally/supporter of students who identify as LGBT to receive two and a half hours of training, and to display a postcard indicating that they actively support LGBT students. This is simply another way in which we are actively expressing that UW-Housing is a safe and affirming place for all students regardless of sexual orientation. Additionally, we know that it’s often a challenge for students who identify as LGBT to always know who they can turn to for support, and one of our goals is assist students in identifying persons as a resource and support in the residence halls. This program was initiated by students living in the residence hall, and a committee comprised of students and professional staff worked on developing the program. The program began in the fall semester 2003.
