Carson Gulley

Carson Gulley (originally named Van Hise Commons) was established in 1926 along with Adams and Tripp residence halls, the earliest buildings in the lakeshore area neighborhood.
Plans for Carson Gulley will dramatically improve all three levels to better accommodate student activities and meeting space needs of the International Learning Community, language houses and special events for the lakeshore area. The dining venue will become a deli and carryout, similar to Newell's in Smith Hall. The facility will also serve as a community center for the Slichter, Adams, and Tripp Halls neighborhood.
Renovation Details- HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing and the windows will be replaced.
- A new passenger elevator will be added to allow residents and guests to reach all three floors of the building.
- The current freight elevator will be replaced.
- Public bathrooms on all floors will be updated and expanded.
- Building and entry accessibility improvements will be made.
- Bike and moped parking will be revamped.
- A new, informal student lounge with program space will be created.
- Two different retail food service venues will be developed. The first venue will serve specialty pizzas, calzones, stromboli, focaccia and other Mediterranean menu items prepared in a Hearth Oven. The second venue will serve fresh Mexican concepts such as burritos, taco salads, quesadillas and other made to order menu items.
- Pizza delivery for residents will be located on the first floor where a portion of the kitchen will be renovated to streamline the process.
- Convenience store items will continue to be offered.
- The first floor seating area will be expand and receive finish and lighting treatments.
- The second floor space will be renovated for catered event use with a set-up for buffet service, catering support and a built-in beverage station.
