The new residence hall, on schedule to open on August 26, 2012, is truly a sight to behold from both Observatory Drive to its south and Lake Mendota to its north.

Dejope Hall's interior spaces have mostly been painted by this point, including its hallways, Technology Learning Center (TLC), classroom, offices, the new Four Lakes Market and dining room, and multi-purpose/conference room on the first floor as well as lounges, resident rooms, bathrooms, and dens on the second through fifth floors. Carpeting is installed in virtually all rooms, while the terrazzo flooring and beautiful Native American campus mound group displays have been completed in the central lobby. In addition, doors have been hung, lights installed, and many finishing touches, such as backsplashes, food service counters and display cases, and high-definition televisions are being applied throughout the building. The food service equipment vendor has also installed most of Lakeside Market's equipment at this point, with only minor adjustments left to be done in the next few weeks. Wood ceilings are being installed in Dejope Hall's dining and multi-purpose/conference rooms, and the building is dust free, allowing contractors to begin testing building systems (fire alarms, heating & air conditioning, etc.). With just a few finishes left to accomplish, the contractor's cleaning company has begun to wipe down surfaces and polish floors and windows in advance of the building's keys being turned over to University Housing.

Outside and around Dejope Hall, work is also progressing toward completion. Landscaping work has commenced in earnest — the Division of Recreational Sports field to the south of the building is being leveled and topsoil is ready to be placed, grass sod has been placed southwest of the building next to the Natatorium, and the green roof (above Four Lakes Market) is being laid by construction crews. Likewise, evergreen trees and other plantings are being placed around the building, and the north-side terrace just outside the dining room is being constructed as workers lay its brick floor. Finally, Dejope Hall received two wonderful finishing touches a few weeks ago, when concrete castings of the UW-Madison crest were hoisted and installed in positions on the hall's south and east exterior facades.
