Terrazzo Flooring Finished and Ceilings Being Installed

The Great Greens soup and salad station in the new Gordon Avenue Market. With substantial completion of the new Gordon Dining & Event Center just two months away, construction crews have finished installing terrazzo flooring throughout the building's first floor. Likewise, crews have begun working on drop ceiling frames in various areas like the new convenience store, dining offices, dining rooms, and the back-of-house food preparation areas. The beautiful spring weather has also allowed contractors to get an early start on various exterior utility and site improvements, such as sidewalks, plantings, and pathway retaining walls. On all levels of the Gordon Dining & Event Center, the flooring contractor is working hard to finish placing gorgeous slate grey quarry tile. In addition, most windows have been installed, providing fantastic views of the East Campus Mall, Sellery Hall, Witte Hall, Ogg Hall, and Dayton Street. Some final touches, like cabinetry, staff lockers, and sliding doors are already being built, giving many spaces the look of substantial completion already.

The new Gordon Avenue Market's construction is coming together nicely. Dining venue stations are taking shape as counters, exhaust hoods, pizza ovens, refrigerators, freezers, sinks, heating elements, and various other pieces of food service equipment are being systematically placed. Temporary protective cardboard has been placed over finished terrazzo and stone quarry flooring to protect it from damage, and in the expansive lower level loading dock the garage door has been installed along with the three truck freight doors. Upstairs, the railing is being built for the 2nd floor balcony located outside the two conference rooms and the Ed Gordon Suite. Inside the conference rooms themselves, finished wood paneling is being constructed on the ceiling in preparation for finishing of the walls and flooring. Finally, railings and surfaces are being completed on the Gordon Dining & Event Center's four stairwells, allowing safe and effortless flow to and from all three levels of the building.
