Tips for parents: IF you decide to call us on behalf of your student
- Please make sure to have a conversation with your student and get all of the details before calling us. Remain calm when calling the University Residence Halls Office. Although this may be difficult, it is much easier for us to wade through to the root of the problem if we can assist you in a calm and cool manner.
- Have a list of questions ready when you call--we can answer them one by one.
- Please “don’t shoot the messenger.” The person answering the phone may not have the answer, but could transfer you to someone who will.
- We may not always be able to provide you with information about your son or daughter's contract and/or preferences. Please understand that the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 ( FERPA) laws prevent us from sharing most information with you about your student, especially once your student is living on campus. This includes billing issues.
- Help your student become independent by having them ask questions of their House Fellow, Residence Life Coordinator, hall desk, other staff in their hall community, and the Housing office, as well as holding them responsible for the information that is sent to them.
