Contest Information

University Housing's Best Room Contest is open to undergraduate residents* living in all 19 residence halls! Show off your room for a chance to win prizes and earn the title of the best room on campus picked from hundreds of entries. Think your room has what it takes to be the Best Room of 2017? Show us!

*House Fellows are not eligible to participate in the contest
*Unfortunately, international students are not eligible to win prizes (due to tax regulations)

To Enter

Complete the entry form and submit 1-4 pictures of your room. If you have trouble with the entry form, you can also email marketing@housing.wisc.edu with the following:

  • Subject of "Best Room Contest"
  • Up to four pictures of your room, one including a shot of you (and your roommate)
  • Your name(s)
  • The name of your residence hall
  • Short paragraph explaining what inspired the design of your room
  • Your choice of a Bean & Creamery coupon for either a hot beverage or a small ice cream (one coupon per room resident)

Timeline

  • Entries will be accepted beginning Monday, January 23rd
  • The submission deadline is Sunday, February 5th, 2017 at 11:59pm (CST)
  • Finalists will be announced on Friday, February 24th
  • The grand prize winning room from the 19 finalists will be selected and announced on Monday, March 13th

Prizes

  • All contestants will be awarded a Bean & Creamery coupon for either a hot beverage or a small ice cream (one coupon per room resident)
  • All finalist rooms will receive a free pizza party courtesy of University Housing Dining (feeds up to 30 people)
  • Each resident of the grand prize winning room from the 19 finalists will receive a $200 Wiscard deposit

Rules

  • Late entries will be disqualified
  • Please take pictures of your room with enough light that your room is actually visible
  • One room from each of the 19 residence halls will be selected as finalists by University Housing based on cleanliness, creativity, best use of space and individuality
  • If living in a double/triple occupancy room, ALL roommates must agree to enter the contest
  • Entries which display a violation of the University Residence Halls contract or the Student/Community Expectations (Arrangement and Decoration of Rooms Policy, found starting on page 3) will be disqualified
  • By entering the contest, participants agree to the use of their photographs and name to be used by University Housing in electronic/print publications, social media, promotional videos, and other multimedia
  • Finalists will be contacted by University Housing regarding a brief professional photo shoot in their room for judging and promotional purposes
  • The grand prize winning room will be selected from among the 19 finalists based on cleanliness, creativity, best use of space, and individuality
  • Facebook “likes” will not be factored into the selection of the grand prize winning room
  • Grand prize winners will need to complete paperwork to receive their prize and may need to report the prize on their 2017-18 tax forms
