Frequently Asked Questions

I have an idea for a floor trip to Wisconsin Dells. How can I request money to organize this?

The first step in organizing a floor or house event is to talk to your House Fellow. Your House Fellow can share upcoming events already planned, help you explore floor interest in a trip or event, obtain funding, and organize all the logistics.

If you're ambitious enough to want to help with a hall trip or event, please contact your Involvement Coordinator or Residence Life Coordinator to get started.

I'm bored. What's happening this weekend?

First, check out your hall websites to see a listing of all the events right in your own residence hall. Second, look at the electronic message boards in common areas of most halls to learn about Residence Life activities. Third, take a look at the UW Events calendar for a wide variety of social, artistic, and educational events. I am involved in a campus organization and want to share information with the halls. What should I do?

Please utilize the Posting Policy information found at the CfLI website. We request information come to the designated location at least 10 days in advance to allow for timely distribution. Please note postings and desk FYIs follow two different processes. We no longer offer mailbox stuffers.

I am involved in a campus organization and we have planned a fundraiser for the halls. Who do I call to get permission to place donation bins in every hall starting next week?

University Housing staff and residents organize many fundraisers and community service events throughout the year. We strive to honor the wishes of current Housing residents in terms of what kinds of activities and what charities they are interested in working with for the current year. Outside campus organizations are therefore not permitted to conduct fundraisers in the residence halls. If you would like to partner with Housing staff and residents to plan a fundraiser or service event, please see the question below on getting more involved with the halls.

What if I am not from a campus organization and want to post information in the halls?

Housing does not permit postings in halls if not from a registered student organization or official university office. There are kiosks outside Gordon Commons and Holt Commons where you can post this information.

How can my campus organization get more involved with the halls?

  1. You can contact the Involvement Coordinator of the hall and ask if you can attend a hall organization meeting. Availability at these meetings is limited, so it's not a guarantee.
  2. You can work with an Involvement Coordinator in a hall to co-sponsor a program in the hall. Co-sponsorship indicates a full collaboration between the sponsoring residence hall and student organization. This means that representatives from both groups will be involved in all stages of program planning, coordination, and execution. You should contact a hall well in advance to get started on the planning process.
