How To Watch the Digital Academic Television Network (DATN) on a Television

(For Windows XP Users with an Nvidia video-card)

These instructions are intended to provide some general guidelines on how to display your computer's monitor on your television screen. For detailed setup instructions for a specific brand of video card or TV, please contact the manufacturer.

Necessary Hardware

1. Your computer will need a video card with an S-Video TV Port similar to those pictured below.

   Laptop

   

   Desktop

   
2. Please Check your Television set for the following composite jacks
   1. This is an input for S-Video
   2. This is an input for Video
   3. This is an input for Audio (Left)
   4. This is an input for Audio (Right)
3. You will need one of the following cables to connect your computer to your TV:

   S-Video Cable

   You can use this if both your TV and computer have S-Video jacks.You would attach this cable to 1.

   

   S-Video to RCA (Composite) Cable

   You can use this if your TV does not support S-Video

   • Video Only

     This cable only supports video, and has a female end; therefore, you need the second cable to act as the male adapter into the input on your TV. You would attach this cable to 2 ONLY.

     

   • Video and Audio

     A cable like the one pictured below will provide both video and audio connections from your computer to your TV. You would attach this cable to 2, 3, AND 4

     

Necessary Software

1. Please check your system and software requirements by visiting the DATN web site. Quicktime is necessary for watching DATN channels, and can be downloaded from the DATN web site or from Apple's web site.
2. Please make sure the drivers on your video card are up-to-date by visiting the manufacturer's web site and downloading the most current driver. If you need help finding out what type of video card you have or how to update it, please call the ResNet Help Line at 262-8703 and choose option #1 to reach a help desk agent.

Connection Instructions

1. Connect the appropriate video cable (RCA or S-Video) from your computer to your television.
2. On your computer, go to Start then to Control Panel (or Settings then Control Panel) and double-click on Display. From there click on the Settings tab and then click Advanced.Click on the Nvidia or GeForcetab. A left toolbar should appear.
   
   If it does not click the expand button to make it appear.
   Note. Make sure your TV is ON and that the connection between the TV and computer is working. If you do not do this (because of cable issues, outdated video card drivers, etc.) you will NOT be able to see the N-View Display Mode or Settings Option
3. Click on N-View Display Modes or Settings on the left tab.
   If you want to double check your television's connection you can click Detect Displays
4. If you want to see a display on both your computer and your television, change the Display Mode or Nview Modes to Clone.
5. If you want to have a full screen mode for your television click Overlay Controls on the left hand tool-panel.
   Change the Full Screen Device to Secondary Display. Select the checkbox for Track overlay rotation.
6. Click Apply. Then Click OK until all menus are closed.
7. Now switch your television to the input source from your computer. (Examples: Input 1, Input 2, AV 1, AV 2, etc). This is usually done via an on-screen menu using the remote.
