ResNet Video Service

Residential Television Network

University Residence Halls

Residence Hall rooms offer Charter expanded basic cable television service and high-definition versions of CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX and PBS. We are also in the process of adding a package of foreign language channels for the 08-09 academic year. We will make announcements in the current news section on the ResNet home page as these channels become available. Premium channels and pay-per-view are not currently offered. This service is included in the room rate specified in your Housing contract. Each resident room is wired with coaxial cable TV jacks, and common areas such as dens and lounges are also wired for cable TV.

Important High Definition Television Tips

Please note that in order to receive the HD channels, you will need a high-definition television that has a QAM tuner.  The language to specify the type of television tuner is somewhat imprecise.  The important part is quadrature amplitude modulation, or the acronym QAM.  In general, television set manufacturers cannot make a device that can decrypt channels encrypted by the cable companies.  So the modifier "clear" is often added to QAM (as in clear QAM).  Technicians sometimes pronounce QAM as if it were spelled "quam".  Television sellers do not always include the fact that a television is equipped to tune clear QAM on the placards in retail showrooms.  Television buyers need to insist on seeing the terms "QAM" or "clear QAM" before purchasing a set.

University Apartments

ResNet does not currently provide cable TV service to residents of University Apartments. All apartments are cable-ready and residents may arrange to have cable service installed by contacting Charter Communications at 1-888 GET CHARTER. University Apartments residents are responsible for any installation and monthly service fees.

NOTE: Outdoor antennas and satellite dishes are prohibited.

Digital Academic Television Network (DATN)

The Digital Academic Television Network offers a selection of digital television stations that can be viewed directly on your computer and is available on the ResNet data network to all Residence Hall and University Apartments residents. DATN is a free service and is offered in addition to the Charter Cable TV package that is available in the Residence Halls only.

For more information, please visit our DATN page.
