ResNet Telephone ServiceUniversity Residence HallsCommon Area PhonesPhones are located throughout common areas in the halls, including all floor dens and main lobbies. Emergency 911 service and unlimited local area dialing (campus and Madison) is provided on these phones. Direct dialed long distance calls cannot be placed using these phones, however prepaid calling cards can be used. Resident Room PhonesPhone lines are not installed in individual resident rooms by default. If you would like to have a phone line installed in your room, please send an email to resnet@housing.wisc.edu with your name, campus ID number, room number, residence hall and UW email address requesting that a line be installed. The cost for a land line is $142 for a semester or $220 for the entire academic year. Charges will be posted to your quarterly Housing bill. Phone requests should be submitted by August 1st for fall semester and by January 2nd for spring semester in order to insure that the phone line is installed by the time you move in. Residence Hall Phone Dialing InstructionsEmergency Calls (911) Dial 911# to place an emergency call to UW Police. Dialing # after 911 will quickly clear your call through the Centrex system. Campus Numbers Campus telephone lines are part of the State of Wisconsin Centrex telephone system. Centrex numbers will have a prefix of 261, 262, 263, 264, 265, 266, 267 or 890. Dial the last 5 digits of the number. (For example, to call 262-5555, dial 2-5555). Off-Campus Local Numbers This would include numbers in the local Madison area. Dial 9 + 7-digit number. Campus Directory Assistance Dial 2-1234 or online: http://www.wisc.edu/cgi-bin/wisc.ph/ph.cgi Pre-Paid Calling Card Dial 9 + 1 + 800 number on your pre-paid calling card. Toll Free Calls Dial 9 + 1 + 800 + seven digit number Collect Calls You cannot make direct dialed collect calls from a common area phone. You can use a toll free service like 1 + 800 + COLLECT. University ApartmentsResNet does not provide telephone service to residents of University Apartments.
