Configuring a Wireless Network Adapter for Windows XP (SP2)

Note: Prior to following these instructions you will need to insure the drivers for your wireless card are already installed.

  1. Click Start -> Control Panel.
  2. In the upper left corner of control panel select switch to classic view.
  3. Select Network Connections.
  4. You should have an option under Lan or High-Speed Internet that says, Wireless Network Connection.

  5. Right-click on your connection icon and a menu will appear, select View Available Wireless Networks.

  6. A window will appear that will display the wireless networks available in your area.available networks interface
  7. Select ResNet-Wireless and click Connect
  8. Open up your web browser and it will be automatically redirected to http://wireless.resnet.wisc.edu. Read the appropriate use policy and complete the form to enable Internet access.
  9. To check your signal strength, double click on your connection icon in the network connections control panel or go to Start -> Connect to -> Wireless Network Connections and observe the signal strength.
