What is University Housing doing to support diversity?
Each individual brings their own uniqueness to our community. All are valued for who they are and their skills and contributions. We actively seek this diversity and work hard at helping all staff and all residents feel that they are affirmed members of the community. By working together, we can create and maintain a work and living environment in which no individual is advantaged or disadvantaged for being different and where everyone has the opportunity to develop their potential and contribute fully to their community. We know that our residents and staff will thrive as a result.
To see this year's Diversity Staff and to get more information on Diversity Initiatives in University Housing please visit the Diversity Initiative website.

When do I move in?
Mid-July you'll receive the Move-In Guide to help plan your move to University Residence Halls. Parking directions and a permit will be included, plus information about where to check in, the unloading process, and where to ship belongings, if necessary.
To make the move-in process as smooth as possible, we schedule residents to arrive over a two-day period divided by floors within the same hall.
Come on your assigned day with the other students on your floor and be sure to participate in Wisconsin Welcome activities.
This year the move-in days are Thursday, August 27 and Friday, August 28. Please refer to the Moving In and Out website for further information.

What is provided for my room and what should I bring?
University Residence Halls provide these items for each resident: bed, desk, mattress, bookcase or hutch, desk chair, mattress pad, and dresser (in Ogg Hall, instead of a dresser, shelves are built into the walk-in closet.) For each room, University Residence Halls will also provide: refrigerator, window coverings, wastebaskets, and closets. For more information and a list of suggested items for your room, check the Room Furnishings page.

What will my room be like?
Every hall has a different setup and each room is a little different. To get a general sense of your room dimensions, suggested carpet size and other features look at the chart provided on the Moving In and Out website.

What activities will be available when I arrive?
Each residence hall plans welcome activities that will be announced once you arrive. Beyond the many activities provided by University Housing, the University has a series of events planned to help new students get to know the campus and get involved. To learn more about this please visit the Wisconsin Welcome website.

Will I make friends?
Moving to a new place can be intimidating and scary, but you will make friends. Getting to know your roommate is a good first step. In addition to your roommate, you will get to know the other residents in your house. Then, Wisconsin Welcome begins. Wisconsin Welcome is a series of events planned to help new students get to know the campus and get involved. Going to events, meeting people on your floor and simply saying "hello" are great ways to make friends and feel more comfortable in your new home.

Will I get along with my roommate?
Getting off on the right foot with your roommate is an important first step to developing friendships. We would encourage you to review the "You and Your Roommate brochure" and talk about this with your roommate.
