Welcome to Tripp, Adams, and Slichter (TAS) Halls!
We are excited that you have chosen to join our community! The staff of TAS is getting ready for your arrival and we look forward to meeting you. TAS staff members work hard to provide a diverse array of opportunities in our community. We hope that by providing a wide variety of activities, both formal and informal, we can help students integrate their academic work with the larger world and with the rest of their lives. You are joining one of the most unique and dynamic communities in University Housing!
From the day you arrive, you are a valued member of our community. We are looking forward to your skills, positive energy, ideas, and contributions. Of course, we have many staff and resources dedicated to helping you when you arrive, but it is all of us together that will make TAS the special, caring, safe, inclusive and respectful place to live this year.
Within our TAS community there are two unique, smaller communities, the Transfer House and the International Learning Community (ILC). First, the Transfer house welcomes incoming transfer students from other higher education institutions.
The Transfer House allows students who are new to UW-Madision the opportunity to meet and network with other transfer students who are both new and returning to the housing community. Living in the Transfer House gives transfer students the opportunity to participate in additional trips and activities based on your interests. This year we had a wide range of activities from: academic study skills, resume workshops, a trip to Chicago to see Rent, a mini-golf outing, and various meals and desert socials throughout the year.
The International Learning Community (ILC) is an opportunity for students interested in global issues, and improving their language skills to come together to learn and explore various international and global topics. The ILC Houses six language immersion communities: Arabic, German, Italian, Japanese, Nordic, and Spanish, as well as general living spaces for those who are interested in exploring global issues. Residents in the ILC participate in a 1-credit learning community seminar course, taught by one of our numerous faculty members involved with the community. For more information on the ILC, please visit our website: http://housing.wisc.edu/ilc
What is there to do in Tripp, Adams, & Slichter?
There is always something going on! Examples of past events planned by the hall organization (Federation of Slichter, Tripp, & Adams — F.A.S.T.) include a Chicago shopping trip, a Devil's Lake day trip, our annual ski trip, and we provided TWO alternative break trip opportunities for our students this year. A winter break trip to Alabama and a spring break trip to Florida. The residents and staff of TAS also provide a variety of programming. Some additional events include: talent shows, game nights, study sessions, resume workshops, dances, Madison city outings, faculty discussions over dinner, international food festivals, social justice and diversity awareness programs, and many more! Your House Fellow will work with you and your housemates to make these types of events happen. In addition to the activities offered by our staff and student leaders, living by the lake allows for spontaneous and informal opportunities to enjoy the outdoors such as: hanging out with friends, swimming in the lake, playing Frisbee and volleyball, studying outside, jogging along the Lakeshore Path, and sledding and broomball in the winter!
The TAS Pine Room serves as the main meeting and communal space within our community. There are numerous Dens and Study Spaces available throughout the TAS community. You will decide as a house, how you'd like your den to be used — social dens, quiet study, or group study.
Full desk service is available at the Tripp Gatehouse where you get your mail, check out movies and games, and sign up for events!
