Welcome to Sellery Hall!
We've been waiting for you! Your new home will be the dynamic Sellery community, located in the heart of campus. You are never too far from the Southeast Recreational Facility (SERF), classes, State Street, and the Unions. From the day you arrive, you are an integral member of our community because of the positive energy, ideas, and contributions you bring. We have tons of staff and resources available, but it is you who make Sellery a place that is caring, safe, inclusive, and respectful of each of its members. We hope this website will get you even more excited to be a part of Sellery this fall. On behalf of everyone at Sellery, we can't wait to meet you! Join the Sellery Hall 2009-2010 Facebook group for updates on Wisconsin Welcome events and to meet your 1150 new best friends! Your House Fellows will also be inviting you to join a House Group too!

What Is There to Do in Sellery? Get Involved Through Sellery Hall Activities!
What is Sellery Hall Activities (SHA)?
SHA is a collection of groups within Sellery that plan activities and fun events for Sellery Residents. SHA holds one meeting every week.
Benefits of being a part of SHA:
- SHA is a great way to gain leadership experience as a Freshman (or Sophomore). Leadership experience is an excellent way to distinguish yourself from other applicants for majors, internships and jobs and a good start to your Leadership Certificate if you choose to peruse one through the Student Organization Office.
- SHA provides very applicable experience for those interested in Business, Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Event Planning, Journalism, Sociology, Social Work, Women's Studies and many other fields of interest.
- SHA is also a great way to meet new people, get exposed to new things and make long lasting friendships. It's also just a lot of fun! You get to plan cool things, go on fun trips and have a major voice in what goes on in Sellery!
- You get power! How are we spending the hall's (YOUR) money? You can decide as a part of SHA... whether it's a lecture, a movie night, a Brewers Game or going to a concert!
Who advises SHA and what is in an Involvement Coordinator?
SHA is advised by Michelle Handke, your Sellery Involvement Coordinator and your Graduate Assistant RLC. Michelle will be at all SHA meetings and most of your events to help you with logistics, food ordering, getting money and reserving spaces or transportation. She will be easily accessible to ensure that you are having the maximum amount of fun and the easiest time planning and enjoying your events and activities!
In your House, staff will work with you and your fellow residents to plan activities. In the Hall, Sellery has numerous activities and ways for you to contribute to your community.
With a bundle of hall involvement options - choose what works best for you! If you are interested in any of the opportunities below, fill out this form and email it to Amanda Erdmann at amanda.erdmann@housing.wisc.edu.
iGroups
Start an Interest Group! We want you to get others involved with your favorite activity, hobby, or great idea! We're even willing to give you money to make it happen. Want to start an Intramural team? No problem - we'll pay the registration fee. Want to watch Grey's Anatomy with friends? No problem - we'll find you a big screen television and give you food to make the event better.
Sellery Speaks
Sellery Speaks is a unique opportunity for residents to explore issues of social justice and multiculturalism through the framework of current events locally and globally. You can also help to educate other residents on these topics by helping to develop events such as roundtable dinners, workshops and discussions.
Sellery Gives Back
Sellery Gives Back is an opportunity for any Sellery Hall resident to give back to the local community, whether that be through a community partnership with Goodman Community Center, local food pantries, or any other opportunity you might be interested in. Volunteer opportunities can be short-term or long-term volunteer opportunities.
Sellery Activities
Sellery Activities gives you the opportunity to have fun, meet new people and make great friends by creating events inside and outside Sellery. These events are meant to be fun opportunities for all residents including yourselves! Just for example, you can plan/go on trips, outdoor activities, friendly competitions, dances, concerts, open mic's and any other events that you and any other residents desire! This also gives you the opportunity to work with groups like the Wisconsin Union Directorate, Hoofers and WUD Music or Film Committees. Some events already in the works are listed below, just to name a few:
- Ski/Snowboard Trip
- Six Flags Trip
- $5 Prom
- Brewer's Game
Sellery Academics
Sellery Academics creates events within Sellery that are academically based including Book Club, Favorite Instructor, Study Bucks, Study Spot of the Week, and other varying events pertaining to Sellery residents' academic needs, wants and futures. You even get the opportunity to network and bring in advisers from schools and majors throughout campus!
Homecoming Committee
Help plan events to make one of the most fun times of the year as great as possible for Sellery residents. In leading up to the Game, there are tons of opportunities for students to get involved: parade, float building, "yell like hell", barge building, and tons of other fun events. Show your Wisconsin pride!
Residence Hall Advisory Board-RHAB
Sellery Hall has 2 Residence Hall Advisory Board (RHAB) Representatives whom are charged with advocating on behalf of Sellery Hall to the senior administrators of University Housing. This is a great way to make your voice heard and bring about change you want to see!
Alternative Break Committee
Make the most of your Spring Break. Attend one of Sellery’s Alternative Spring Break trips. In the past, we have traveled all throughout the country to such places as Miami FL, New Orleans, and Saint Petersburg FL helping with a wide range of projects, from rebuilding homes after Hurricane Katrina to helping repair nature parks after natural disasters. The trips are fun, affordable, and meaningful!
What if I Need Help with my Classes?
One of our most important jobs is to help you be academically successful. Most students need help at some point, so don't be afraid to speak up. Sellery is a strong academic community, and we have many resources to help you meet your academic goals.
- Take classes with your neighbors; there is more information on how to do this at SOAR.
- Visit the Sellery Hall math tutors.
- Use one of the many quiet or group study rooms or the Technology Learning Center (TLC).
- Use Class Connections online and look up people taking the same courses as you.
- Join one of the many study groups that start at the beginning of each semester and get funding for supplies or food.
- Set academic goals for yourself through the A-team program and receive study bucks redeemable for prizes when you are caught studying.
In Sellery you also have your very own academic advisors right on the first floor. The Cross College Advising Office can help you with course selection, choosing a major, degree requirements, studying abroad, research opportunities, and dropping/adding courses.
