Substance Free Community
From floor programs to University events, residents of this tight-knit community will engage in a range of activities that support and promote a substance-free lifestyle. In addition to having their own House Fellow, residents in the Substance Free Community will also have a unique opportunity to engage with a Graduate Assistant whose focus will be on supporting this environment.
Current Substance Free Floor Resources include:
- Big Screen TV
- Play Station 2
- Dance, Dance, Revolution equipment
- Board Games
- Funds to create new programs and events
One way the Substance Free Community is supported is through personal and peer accountability. As members of this self-selected community, all residents who live in the Substance Free Community are expected to commit to a lifestyle free of alcohol and other drugs. Residents sign an agreement upon arrival in the hall which states, among other things, that "at no time while in Buck House will I consume alcoholic beverages, or use tobacco products or illegal drugs. In addition, if I am not 21 years of age, I will not possess any substance which would be illegal for me to possess. I will not have any empty containers in my possession that once contained alcohol." In addition, residents agree that if they have gone off-campus and consumed drugs or alcohol, they will not return to the floor under the influence.
