Welcome to Witte Hall!
Residents of Witte Hall will have the opportunity to be a part of a home away from home. Each floor will be encouraged by their House Fellow to create an environment in which the individual interests, passions and talents of every resident are encouraged to develop and be respected by others. The Witte Hall staff is dedicated to providing opportunities to residents which will develop the skills that are rated as top qualities sought by employers. These skills include: communication; honesty and integrity; interpersonal; teamwork; motivation/initiative; flexibility and adaptability; leadership. We look forward to meeting all of you in the fall and welcoming you into your new home! Please join the Witte Hall 2009-2010 Facebook group for updates on Wisconsin Welcome events and to start meeting your new neighbors! We are very excited that you have chosen Witte Hall to be a part of your freshman experience. Have a wonderful summer; we will see you in the fall.
Location, location, location. . .
This is what many residents say they love about Witte. Walk directly across our bridge and you will find yourself at the Gordon Commons with a "fast food" option and a "sit down" option for meals. We are located across from the Multicultural Student Center Satellite Office which provides out-of-classroom experiences where students and other members of the University community can learn about and appreciate other cultures. Witte is also very close to the Kohl Center and the SERF, a workout facility complete with a pool and group classes. A few blocks away is State Street, a unique place in downtown Madison alive with activity every day of the week and featuring block after block of specialty shops, art galleries, gift stores, women's boutiques, ethnic shops, theaters, museums, restaurants and outdoor sidewalk cafes.
Need help with classes?
Resources within Witte Hall can help to bridge the gap between the classroom and life skills. Helping you to become a great student is our priority! Most students need help with the transition to their first year of college, so don’t be afraid to speak up. You are not alone! What else is there to do in Witte?
A residence hall experience would not be complete without bridging the gap between academics and growth through relationships. The best way to make your college experience stand out is to get involved. With a large outside recreational area - the Witte Backyard - and a cozy indoor lounge area - the Caboose - you are bound to find someone among your 1150 neighbors, who has a common interest.
So, don’t just sit back and watch. Become an active member of the Witte community by:
- Joining the Witte Hall Organization
- Taking a day trip to the Kalahari water park
- Participating in the Witte Hall Olympics
- Seeing a local band play in the Witte Backyard
- Participate in the Gay Straight Alliance (GSA)
Within your House, staff will work with you and your neighbors to plan activities. In the Hall, the Witte Hall Organization will continue to plan many events beyond the Wisconsin Welcome Week to keep your involved.
The Multicultural Learning Community
The Multicultural Learning Community (MLC) is located on the 2nd floor of Witte B Tower (Beale House) Students who live here want to participate in learning more about themselves and others. MLC residents have a thirst to understand the problems and issues, as well as, the benefits and contributions of human diversity. Learning is a lifelong experience, so MLC residents seek this understanding to constructively shape their actions and behavior in order to be successful and caring students and citizens. All students living on the MLC are required to enroll in a weekly seminar class for 3 credits.
Safety
A community is only as safe as its members. Witte Hall is located in the southeast area neighborhood near downtown Madison. Staff members make every effort to keep the hall as safe as possible. These measures include: locking outside doors at night; student staff members on call when the Residence Life Office is closed; and security cameras located on the first floor. All residents are encouraged to help keep Witte a safe community.
Residents are expected to be responsible for people that they allow to access the building. All guests MUST be escorted at all times. We encourage all residents to participate in the Badger Watch program in order to learn more about safety on campus and ways that all students can keep themselves safe.
