  • Prospective Students

Chadbourne Residential College (CRC) offers a residential learning experience for students who wish to pursue the values of a liberal education in a community whose members believe in working together to encourage informal learning, active involvement, and academic excellence.

  • Together we create a community of learners committed to the life of the mind in the broadest sense.
  • Together we will use a variety of informal activities -- lectures, symposia, discussion groups, field trips, film nights, art exhibits, parties – to complement our formal studies.
  • Together we create a community in which students and professors have lots of chances to get to know each other outside the classroom in an effort to foster all collaborative learning, mentoring, and friendship.
  • Together we can develop our leadership skills by involvement in community service both on campus and off.
  • Together we create a community which promotes tolerance, respect, and well-roundedness among its members by encouraging community members to learn from and take joy in each other's diverse backgrounds and talents.

Chadbourne Residential College is closely affiliated with the College of Letters and Science, and membership is open to all UW students who share its values of academic excellence and community involvement. Students from every school and department are welcome to join, and seniors and juniors are as welcome as freshmen and sophomores. Indeed, CRC encourages students to become involved in its programs even if they cannot reside in Chadbourne Hall or Barnard Hall.

The only really crucial requirement is engagement: Students seeking admission should understand that they are making a serious commitment to participating as fully as possible in the intellectual and social life of the college.
