Residence Hall Amenities

Our 16 residence halls, ranging in size from 75 to 1,150 beds, are conveniently located in the heart of campus - close to shopping, galleries, restaurants, natural areas and historic attractions. The residence halls provide air conditioned, simply furnished rooms suitable for single or double occupancy. With over 7,200 twin/single beds, we can provide lodging for conference groups of most sizes. Several types of accommodations are offered to best meet the needs of your program.

Adult Group Services

For your convenience, data jacks are available in every resident room for your laptop computer. Cable jacks are active if you choose to bring your own television. Wireless access is available in floor lounges and dining areas. Laundry facilities, vending and ice machines are located in most buildings. Lounges provide televisions and a casual social area. For the comfort of all guests, all campus buildings are smoke-free.

American with Disabilities Act Accommodations

When planning a summer conference or program, inquire about eligibility and possible services for special needs with the McBurney Disability Resource Center at 608-263-2741 or 608-263-6393 (TTY/TDD) or visit www.mcburney.wisc.edu.

The conference/program planner should submit to the Division of University Housing in writing the special summer residence hall and dining accommodations needed by March 1.

Bathroom Facilities

In standard residence halls, men and women are housed on separate floors with shared bath facilities for each gender. Bathrooms are spacious with separate individual showers and dressing areas for privacy.

For adults, Phillips Hall rooms have private bathrooms. The bathroom facilities in Smith Hall serve two to three adjacent guest rooms (up to 5 guests). The bathroom facilities in Ogg Hall serve four adjacent guest rooms (up to 8 guests).

Housekeeping

Room service and linen service are available to suit a variety of guest's needs and budgets. Adult group rates typically include daily room service to refresh towels, make beds, and empty trash. For youth groups, we offer more economical packages with varying degrees of room service.

Desk Services

Whether you're traveling to Madison as a new destination or returning to this dynamic city, our friendly staff will provide prompt service. A service desk will be available while you are with us on campus. Desk hours vary based on the residence hall. Most adult groups will have a 24-hour desk available inside the residence hall. Desk services and sales items include:

  • Alarm clocks
  • Cables for Internet and television connections (free)
  • Hairdryers
  • Irons/ironing boards
  • Laundry cards for self-laundry facilities (free)
  • Laundry soap (free)
  • Mail distribution
  • Phone message service
  • Postage stamps (free)
  • Reading lights
  • Recreation equipment

Telephones

Guests rooms and common areas do not have telephones.  We recommend that you bring your own cell phone.

Televisions

There are lounges with televisions throughout the residence halls for your convenience. Guest rooms are cable-ready. For those guests who bring their own television and coaxial cable, cable television service is provided at no additional charge. Computer Access

A variety of technology services (PDF) are offered to guests staying in the University Residence Halls.

If you bring your own computer, you can connect to the Internet through wired access in the privacy of your guest room at no additional charge. For instructions regarding wired Internet service connection, please see our Conference Services Technology Guide (PDF).

Wireless access points can be found in all residence hall common areas (meeting rooms, lounges, study rooms, etc.).

A tech center, which provides both PC and Mac computers, is available in some residence halls. Classroom hours or 24-hour access may be scheduled by the conference group coordinator.

Meeting Rooms and Audio-Visual Equipment

University Housing Conference Services offers assistance with meeting planning (PDF) in several meeting rooms available for use by summer residential programs at no additional charge. To make room reservations within University Housing facilities, please contact the Housing Conference Services Office.

Audio and visual equipment for University Housing residential summer programs is reserved at least three weeks in advance on a first come, first served basis through the Housing Conference Services Office. Equipment can be reserved for use in our residence halls and dining units. Equipment use includes delivery of the equipment to your meeting room, set up and removal following your program. If you are in need of equipment troubleshooting for any equipment that you have reserved, please contact the Desk Services staff.

In most cases, there are no additional audio or visual fees for residential summer programs. Any fees for equipment that is lost, stolen, or damaged, will be the responsibility of the program sponsor.

The following audio equipment is available for residential summer groups:

  • Microphones (handheld, lapel; wired and wireless)
  • Portable public address/sound systems for indoor use

The following video/projection equipment is available for residential summer groups:

  • Data projectors (for computer-related presentations)
  • DVD players
  • Overhead projectors
  • Televisions (various sizes)
  • VCR units
  • VCR/DVD combination units

The following additional equipment is available for residential summer groups:

  • Dry-erase boards
  • Easels for flip charts (bring own paper flip charts)
  • Extension cords
  • Microphone stands
  • Podiums (table top and floor)
  • Power strips
  • Screens
  • Telephones (free local calls)
  • Telephone line splitters
  • Television carts

Summer residential programs may make arrangements to secure their own audio and visual equipment from outside sources. All costs, delivery, set up, removal, security, and any other arrangements related to the use of non-Housing equipment is the sole responsibility of the conference sponsor and organizers. University Housing does not assume any liability for equipment used for conference programs.

Parking

Parking is very limited on campus and within the city. Housing's residence halls do not have their own parking facilities. Arrangements for parking may be made by contacting your program director or the UW-Madison Transportation Services Office:
