Extra Keys
You may purchase up to three extra keys for a small fee, which is payable with your next month’s rent. If you need a loaner key for 24 hours, that service is also available.
Outside Storage
There are items that are permitted to be stored outside. The Storage Policy describes what can be stored outside and when (some items are considered seasonal). Items must be stored properly- maintaining required access or they will be removed. Every item stored outside requirese a current Property Sticker. You can get extra stickers for your apartment at the University Apartments Office in the Community Center.
Dishwashers
Because of plumbing limitations, dish washers are not allowed in Harvey Street or in Eagle Heights. Residents who have tried to use dishwashers have often incurred a great deal of expense due to flooding problems. In University Houses, portable dishwashers are permitted.
Can I change the Shower head?
Yes, residents may install different showerheads. However, when moving out, the original showerhead must be put back on, or check out charges will be incurred.
Can I install a water filter system?
Some water filter systems can be used. Please check with the Apartment Facilities Office for details.
Can I install a ceiling fan?
No. Unfortunately, we are unable to allow ceiling fans due to the type of ceiling construction and the limitations of the electrical wiring.
Can I put up shelves in apartment?
No. Shelves cannot be attached to the walls. The installation of shelves often creates holes that are expensiveand time consuming to repair.
Do we have a car wash?
No. We are unable to have a car wash area on site, due to state regulations that protect lake water from run-off.
Household Hazardous Waste
Check with the city of madison for locations to drop off waste oil, medications, household chemicals, etc. http://www.cityofmadison.com/streets/hazardous/
What does Apartment "Turnover" mean?
Turnover refers to the process of cleaning and repairing an empty apartment, so that it is in ideal condition for the next resident. This involves, at minimum, visits from a carpenter, a mechnic, a painter, and a custodial team.
