Situated just a half-mile northwest of UW-Madison's western campus, Eagle Heights is a community of apartment buildings located within over 83 acres of green space surrounded by woods just feet from Lake Mendota in Madison, Wisconsin. It boasts numerous picnic and playground areas, a central community center, and one of the oldest community gardens in the United States.
Eagle Heights features unfurnished apartments for UW-Madison graduate students, students with families, postdoctoral researchers, academic staff, and faculty.. Most of the apartment buildings are two stories, with a few three-story facilities. Depending on the design of the building, apartments can open into a common hallway or directly to the outside. Eagle Heights buildings are not equipped with elevators, but residents may request ground floor apartments. A number of apartments are also equipped to meet special housing accommodations.
The majority of buildings in Eagle Heights are designated as smoke free, meaning that smoking is not allowed anywhere in the buildings. A few buildings allow smoking inside apartments, but not within 25 feet from buildings or in common areas such as hallways and laundry rooms.
Furnishings & Storage
Eagle Heights apartments are not furnished. Kitchens have a standard-sized refrigerator, a combination stove/oven, and a garbage disposal. Windows are energy efficient, and window coverings (pull-down shades) are provided. Floors are carpeted, except in the kitchen and bathroom. A storage locker and padlock is provided for each apartment, though lockers very in size and provide very limited storage space.
Air conditioners are not provided, but personally owned units may be installed in openings located within each apartment. The Electrical capacity and size of the opening for air conditioners are limiting factors in most buildings, so it is advisable to wait and purchase an air conditioner after moving in. Dishwashers and personally owned washers and dryers are not permitted in any Eagle Heights apartments.
Heat, water, laundry, high-speed campus Internet, and cable television are included in the rent. Eagle Heights residents pay separately for electrical and telephone services.
Each Eagle Heights apartment is assigned one parking space, free of charge. A limited number of additional parking spaces are available for a monthly fee on a first come, first served basis. Space is not available to store cars, trailers, and other vehicles.
Dogs, cats, snakes, and other pets (unless listed below as approved) are not permitted. Small fish (in a tank no larger than 20 gallons), salamanders, caged birds, lizards, hermit crabs, frogs, toads, gerbils, white mice, hedgehogs and hamsters are considered appropriate pets if humanely cared for, odorless, completely harmless to persons and property, and kept in a cage or glass enclosure. If you have a pet that is not permitted, please make arrangements for its care before moving in to Eagle Heights.
Eligibility for service animals (such as seeing-eye dogs) to be allowed in Eagle Heights is determined by UW-Madison's McBurney Disability Resource Center.
