Apartment Repairs
In the course of your stay at University Apartments you will likely have maintenance questions or issues. You may be able to handle some of these issues yourself. If the following information does not answer your question or help you resolve the issue yourself, please feel free to call us or submit a request for service online. The resident handbook is also a good source of information.
Emergency repair services (such as no heat, no water, or other urgent situations) are available by contacting the Resident Manager on duty 24 hours on holidays and weekends, and 5:30pm to 8am on weekdays (You may contact the Resident Manager on duty by cell phone at 444-9308 or pager at 657-1799). From 7:00am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, contact the Apartment Facilities Office at 262-2037.
Dial 911 if you are experiencing a serious health or safety emergency.
Non-emergency repairs (such as broken shades, garbage disposals not working, bathtubs draining slowly) can be requested by using the "Submit a Request" button or calling 262-2037 (Apartment Facilities Office).
Our goal is to respond to all service calls
within 2 working days after we receive the request.
Since there is only one full time carpenter on staff, carpentry work
(such as broken counter tops and cabinets) will take longer than 2 days.
Common Repair Problems and Apartment Information
Each apartment is equipped with a garbage disposal in the kitchen sink. Only small amounts of food waste, in small pieces should be placed in the disposal. To use the disposal: start running cold water down the disposal. Turn on the disposal by using the switch on the wall near the sink. Add small amounts of food waste at a time. When you are done with the food waste, allow the water to run for 15 more seconds. If the disposal is not working: never put cleaners down the disposal such as liquid plumber. You may need to "reset" the disposal. There is a red button on the bottom of the disposal. Push it and see if the disposal works again.
All apartments are provided with a plunger. If your toilet becomes clogged: never put cleaners in the toilet such as liquid plumber. Place the rubber end of the plunger in the toilet and push down with the long handle, creating pressure. Pull up on the plunger, creating suction. Repeat several times (with force) until the toilet clears.
Electrical

All apartments in Eagle Heights have a circuit breaker box located in the kitchen or hallway which controls the electricity entering the apartment. Sometimes, circuit breaker switches become over loaded and they "trip" off. You can open the box and push the switch to "off" and then back to "on" to restore service. If you ever see a flash or spark from an appliance, unplug it and leave it unplugged until a University Apartments Staff member can check out the appliance.
If one of the outlet plugs is not working in your living room, try the switch by the front door. The switch by the front door controls some of the outlets in the living room.
Apartments are heated by hot water. Pipes circulate hot water from a boiler in the basement through the building. You control the heat entering your apartment using the thermostat located on the wall in the living room or hallway. There is an indicator of current temperature in the apartment and an adjustable dial that you set to your desired temp. If you feel your heat is not working: make sure your windows are closed. Make sure your thermostat is set correctly. The heat is not turned on for the season until outside temperatures drop below 40 degrees for several days.
