Seminars & Courses

Seminars

The WISE Seminar is a one credit course that meets once a week over dinner. The women who enroll in this seminar hear from many faculty members and are exposed to a wide variety of scientific research and future career possibilities.

To sign up for the seminar series, register for Inter Ag 175. Students registered for WISE are already authorized to attend the seminar.

The seminar will be held every other Tuesday evening in the spring semester from 5:30pm-7:00pm. The alternate weeks will be opportunities for students to complete their 10 required service hours for the course.

Reserved Course Sections

Women in the WISE program are able to take key foundation courses together. Special WISE lab and discussion sections are reserved in chemistry, math, and engineering classes. Many WISE students take these courses during their first year and the WISE sections are very popular. Lab instructors frequently hold office hours in the hall, there's always a study partner down the hall, and best of all, WISE participants consistently earn grades that are well above the class average!

An important benefit of living in WISE is being able to study and learn together with fellow residents.

Visit the Sellery and WISE reserved class sections page for specific class information this semester.

Chemistry

WISE has two introductory chemistry courses for the fall, as most prospective science and engineering majors take chemistry in the first semester of their freshman year. If you are taking chemistry we strongly urge you to register for a WISE section. You will be in the same chemistry lecture, lab and discussion section as other WISE students, which helps as you'll form study groups and make friends. Previous students tell us that the special chemistry sections are one of the most useful features of the program and students in WISE sections generally receive above-average grades in chemistry.

Fall Course Offerings:

Chemistry 103: General Chemistry
Chemistry 109: General and Analytical Chemistry I
