Eagle Heights Garden plots for 2020 – applications available soon

Would you like to have a garden at Eagle Heights or University Houses Gardens next year? Applications for 2020 will be available starting Dec. 15. The applications can be filled out and submitted on-line, or you may print one from the website and drop it off at the Eagle Heights Community Center, along with your check for the fees. You may also pick up paper applications, in English or in Chinese, at the Community Center, beginning December 15.

Our website is at www.eagleheightsgardens.org, where there is a lot of information about the gardens.

Both small and large garden plots are available. Large plots at Eagle Heights are about 20’ X 25’ (6 X 8 meters), and small plots are about half that size. University Houses plots are slightly bigger. Eagle Heights’ plots must be gardened organically, but University Houses has both organic and non-organic sections. For residents of Eagle Heights, Harvey Street, and University Houses apartments, large plots are $32 and small plots are $20. You don’t have to be an Eagle Heights resident or even connected to the University to get a garden plot, but residents and students have priority.

If you submit an application on-line, you will need to drop off your payment for the plot separately, at the Community Center. We accept personal checks, money orders, and cashier’s checks from banks. We cannot accept cash, credit cards, or starter checks. (Those are checks that don’t have account numbers, or printed names and addresses.) Please make your check or money order payable to DIVISION OF UNIVERSITY HOUSING.
People who had garden plots in 2019 will have until February 15 to renew their plots. After that date, remaining plots will be assigned to new gardeners. So, new gardeners will not receive their plot assignment until late February or March. There are usually about 200 garden plots available each year for new gardeners. Usually, anyone who applies by April will get a plot.

Opening day for garden season will be late in March. Also in late March, we will hold a Seed Fair, where we will have free seeds and gardening information for our gardeners.
