As we shared with you in earlier communications this week, due to Governor Evers issuing the Safer at Home order, we had to discontinue the move-out process this past Monday evening. We realize this change was sudden and may not have allowed you to make it back to campus in time to move yourself out. We know that many of you receiving this communication have already moved out.
We’ve also shared with you that we have been asked by the State to prepare for the potential of providing special housing provisions during the COVID-19 emergency and we need to be prepared to act quickly. Your building has been identified for potential use and we will start packing your belongings on Monday March, 30th and storing them here on campus.
Here’s how the process will work
- We will be hiring a professional company to handle the packing and moving of your belongings.
- Every box will be clearly labeled with the Hall Name, House Name, and Room Number.
- Boxes will be stored in a clean, secure, safe area within the residence halls.
- If you have an essential item in your room that cannot be boxed up and stored (such as medication, passport, important documents), please complete this form, and we will ship them directly to you. Please include information about what the item is and where it is located and where you would like it shipped.
If there are multiple roommates in a room who haven’t moved out, there is a possibility that possessions could get packed together. We promise to outline a clear process for pick-up that will allow roommates to sort out their possessions to help ensure everything goes home with the correct person. The timeline for picking up items will depend on when we are told students are allowed to visit campus again.
Please note that if you have an existing contract with Lazybones to pack, store, or ship your items, they still plan to fulfill that work, so please do not cancel your contract.
We understand this process may be upsetting and not what you wanted your move-out process to be. We share this feeling with you. Be reassured that we will take the utmost care to pack everything carefully and keep your items secure until it is safe to travel to campus to collect them. In the rare cases where there might be damaged personal property in this process, the University’s Risk Management Department will respond to claims for reimbursement. For other questions about liability and room access policy, please refer to the University Residence Halls contract. We take this process very seriously, as we understand these rooms were your home on campus.
