University Housing is proud to announce that our own Molly Lenz has been elected to serve as Chair of the University Staff Congress Central Committee. This is Molly’s third year as the Congress Representative for District 123, and she served as Vice Chair of the Central Committee last year.
University Staff Congress is the largest representative shared governance body for university staff at UW-Madison, serving as the final decision-making body in the university staff shared governance process. In this new role, Molly will help guide this group as it listens to staff feedback and works with leaders across campus.
Having worked in University Housing since 2013 in roles at University Apartments and Residence Hall Facilities, Molly’s experience and work with a wide variety of Housing employees make her uniquely qualified to represent our staff in Congress. “University Staff is the backbone of Campus,” says Molly. “They perform the critical tasks that keep the university functioning at every level. When you hear the phrase, ‘essential worker’ used, it means ‘University Staff.’ Shared governance is the means by which our staff provides insights, feedback, and ideas directly to the campus leadership. I want to make sure our voices are heard clearly and our contributions to campus life are recognized.”
Representing such a diverse staff can be a balancing act of prioritization, but Molly’s role offers Housing a direct connection to the issues being discussed at a campus level. Mike Kinderman, Director of Residence Hall Facilities, shares, “This new leadership role will allow Molly to expand her influence and be an even louder voice for those she represents. I am happy for her and all of us that she represents.”
Molly urges others to get involved with University Staff Congress as well by running for vacant seats and sharing feedback. “Running for Congress was the best decision I have made. I have grown as a person and have learned so much. I’m able to do what I enjoy most – which is helping people!”
