On Friday, December 11, campus shared updates about the spring semester, with information about COVID-19 testing, the Safer Badgers app, and returning to Madison after Winter Break. We would like to share a few more important details with you for the residence halls.
Spring Move-In Date Change
Spring move-in dates have shifted from what was previously announced. University Residence Halls will now reopen on January 20 to allow residents time to get tested for COVID-19 before the semester begins.
In early-January, residents will receive more detailed information about spring move-in and will be able to schedule a 20-minute move-in time slot for January 20-24 in My UW Housing. If residents have already arranged travel plans, there will be plenty of time slots each day to accommodate them. By picking an earlier date, students can complete the requirements for accessing other campus buildings and services sooner.
Arrive on a Different Day Than Your Roommate
Public health officials are strongly encouraging roommates to arrive on different days. This allows contact to be limited with each other before a first COVID-19 test/result and possibly avoiding having to quarantine.
Residents will be required to test for COVID-19 upon arrival. After arriving, residents should restrict their movement to essential activities until they complete two negative on-campus tests. This means residents should:
- Stay in their room as much as possible
- Only take part in required academic and work activities
- Stay away from gatherings with people other than their roommate
Residents will be required to test twice a week. Two negative on-campus tests will be required by January 31. By maintaining twice a week testing, residents will be able to continue accessing campus facilities and services through the Safer Badgers app.
Fall Move-Out and Winter Break
As a reminder, residents still on campus must fill out the End of Semester Plans form in My UW Housing by December 15. This form includes selecting a move-out time and signing up for Winter Break housing if needed.
If moving out at the end of the semester, make sure to complete the move-out checklist on our Moving & Breaks page. Residents must turn in their room key at their hall desk before leaving.
