Hoofer Outing Club invites University Apartments residents to join us on a canoe outing on Lake Mendota, beginning at Spring Harbor Park and ending at the Memorial Union Terrace. No prior canoeing experience is necessary. Hoofer volunteers will help fit paddles and lifejackets and will help instruct canoeing.
Schedule & Location
On Wednesday June 9, 2021, meet at 5:30 pm at the Spring Harbor Park Boat Launch (5218 Lake Mendota Drive). From there, we will paddle one-way to Memorial Union, and plan to arrive at the Memorial Union Terrace by sunset (8:36 pm).
Participants are responsible for their own transportation to Spring Harbor Park before the trip and for their own transportation from Memorial Union after the trip.
What to Bring
Dress in clothing that is appropriate to being outside for a few hours, exposed to the sun, wind, and rain. Every participant should wear shoes that will stay on their feet if they are in the water.
Remember that anything you bring can potentially get wet! We don’t plan to tip over a canoe, but we do plan for that possibility. Hoofers will bring some waterproof containers for participants to store personal items.
Youth
Youth participants may join us. A parent or guardian must sign their waiver, and any individual under the age of 16 must be in a boat with someone over the age of 18.
Notes
In the event of strong winds or adverse weather conditions, this event may be postponed.
