As we start a new Academic Year full of hope and new challenges, we look back proudly at another successful move-in of welcoming new Badgers and families. This year, we welcomed 8,469 students into the residence halls, with nearly 8,000 of them moving in over the span of five days. Among all of these residents, 92% arrived fully vaccinated for COVID-19, which is greatly encouraging in our efforts to have a safe, successful school year.
Your efforts as Housing staff make a huge difference in the first impressions and experiences of our residents, as well as easing the anxiety of parents and families who are entrusting us with their child in the midst of a pandemic. That impact shows in the many smiles we witnessed during move-in and the many positive comments shared on social media:
“Shout out to the staff/volunteers at Sellery this week for their help with move-in and super positive can-do attitude in troubleshooting a couple of problems we had. Especially given the elevator situation (that is, there aren’t many of them), they did a great job. Feeling confident that if problems arise in the future, the team there can handle them. Thank you!!”
“We moved our son into Chadbourne this morning. There were signs everywhere and tons of friendly people to help. Lofting the beds was super easy (we couldn’t find our rubber mallet at home so we ended up checking one out from the desk). Even with lofting, we did not use the full 90 minutes. Great job University Housing! That actually was fun!”
“I’ve always felt compared to schools my other kids attended, UW is the Disney of move-in/move-out.”
Some of these smiles and positive experiences were captured in photos by campus photographers, as well as our own photography by Joel Ninmann. You can browse our full photo galleries of move-in (and maybe even see yourself) at our Housing Media Archive.
Thank you for all that you do, during move-in and throughout the entire year.
