Celebrate Sandhill Cranes – Book Giveaway & Fun Activities for Families and Kids!

Sandhill cranes in tall grassWhat: Join staff and volunteers from the Lakeshore Nature Preserve to learn about sandhill cranes—those big, beautiful, noisy birds that roam the UW-Madison campus. Activities will include a book giveaway, book reading, crane show and touch, and crane crafts!

When: Saturday May 7 from 11:00-1:00pm

Where: Brown Shelter (rain location inside the Community Center)

Book Giveaway: Families can receive a copy of the children’s book, Sandhill Crane Siblings Learn to Find Food, by Joy Zedler, UW-Madison Professor Emerita. Dr. Zedler, an internationally recognized expert on wetland restoration and ecology, served as Aldo Leopold Chair of Restoration Ecology for the UW Arboretum for 18 years. She wants young people to know how special wetlands are for sandhill cranes and people!
