The Open Seat Returns!

The Open Seat will resume weekly food distribution on Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the Eagle Heights Community Center. To kick off the semester, we want to provide some information about the Open Seat and how it works.

The Open Seat is a food pantry for UW students. Food pantries are for people who do not have enough money to buy the food they need to be healthy. Some people use food panties every week, and some use them once in a while. We want any student who is worried about running out of money or food to come to the Open Seat.

The Open Seat is a program run by the student government. All of the food we hand out comes from people who donate money or food to us.

We get most of our food from Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin (secondharvestmadison.org). A food bank is an organization that gets food from large donations, farmers or factories and delivers it to food pantries. Second Harvest Foodbank is not a store, and does not have the kind of selection you get at a store. Sometimes Second Harvest won’t have certain foods available, and that may mean we don’t have it either. In the winter most of the vegetables are the kind that grow in Wisconsin in cold weather. In the summer and fall there are more fruits and vegetables available.
If you are coming to the Eagle Heights location, you must place your order every Thursday, no later than 12:00 p.m. at https://forms.gle/DdE3Ht5poeNT3hJ89

It is best to bring a bag with you on Wednesday to take your food home. We finish at 6:00 p.m..

You can also come to the third floor of 333 East Campus Mall and choose from a wider range of options. Please choose one location each week, not both. The East Campus Mall location is open on Mondays 4:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesdays 10:00-12:00 p.m. and Fridays 12:30-4:00 p.m.
