An annual community event, the Mifflin Street Block Party, is set to take place on Saturday, April 29th. Although this is not a University-sponsored event, we do see a large amount of students who choose to attend. Due to the nature of this event, the behavior students engage, and its proximity to several residence halls, University Housing will enact several policies in some residence halls that will be in effect on Saturday, April 29th. The goal of these policies is to maintain the safety of our residence hall students, as well as the community. These policies include, but are not limited to guest restrictions, check in stations, and an increased staff presence.
With events such as Mifflin, we see an increase in student’s use of BORGs (Black Out Rage Gallons). When BORGs are present at events on/near campus, we have seen a much higher rate of students who need medical assistance due to alcohol poisoning and are then transported to the detox facility or to a hospital. We urge you not to make or drink from BORGs, and to be prepared to fully cooperate with staff if you are caught with one (or any other alcohol container). Students who engage in behavior that is in violation of University and/or Housing policy may be subject to disciplinary action.
