6 semesters (3 years)

What is your current position?

Office Student Supervisor

What do you do in a typical shift?

In a typical shift, I go through my emails. A lot of these are schedule change requests or emails notifying me of changes or problems around our market. I work on scheduling new student staff members and making sure that we have all of the necessary orientation training and paperwork completed. I also help out the shift leads wherever they need it during the meal periods. I tend to be all over the market.

What are some perks of your job?

Some of the perks of my job are the schedule that works the best for me. It works around my classes so I’m not too overwhelmed during my days. The free meal vouchers are also a really big perk!

What is your favorite part of the job?

My favorite part of my job is the people that I work with. I have met some of my closest friends here at Liz’s Market, and I enjoy coming to work because I know my friends are going to be there!

What is something you have accomplished in your job that you are proud of?

Getting to where I am now is something that I am really proud of. I started out as a freshman as a Team Member, and then I became a Shift Lead, and now I am the Office Student Supervisor. I am really proud that I can be a member of the Dining & Culinary Services community and I can work to make DCS a good place to work.

What transferrable skills have you learned?

I have learned a lot in this job. I have gotten very confident in my leadership and teamwork skills through my years here. In my position specifically, I have even gotten some great practice with Excel!

Why should students apply for this job?

If you’re looking for a job that will work around your class schedule, will be super flexible, will give you free food, and will introduce you to some great people, you don’t need to look anymore. I think that Dining & Culinary Services is such a great place to work when you’re starting out, and even if you’re only around for freshman year, you won’t regret it!

Why did you choose to work for University Housing over somewhere else?

Liz’s Market is in Waters Residence Hall, which is where I wanted to live, so I applied to work as a Team Member. I have an older sister and older cousin who had worked at Liz’s Market their freshman year, and really enjoyed it, so I knew that I wanted to work there specifically. I had heard great things about working in Dining and wanted to see what it was all about.
