My name is Makamae Sniffen and I am excited to join the team of amazing resident managers for Eagle Heights! I am originally from Hawaiʻi – born and raised – where I completed my undergraduate in Family Resources and Master’s in Education at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Which, of course, raises the question: what the heck is a Hawaiʻi kid doing all the way in Madison?! I was encouraged by mentors to pursue my PhD away from home so here I am at UW – entering year two of my joint program in Educational Policy Studies and History. My research looks at the 19th century Hawaiian Kingdom to examine the connections between where we’ve come from to where we are now.

I have been a part of the Eagle Heights community since July 2023 and I am really looking forward to getting to know you all more! Like some of you, most of my time is spent bouncing between classes, readings, or research, while the other portion of time is spent cooking foods I miss from home or lounging around.

Please feel free to say hi when you see me around!
