We need your help with an important issue affecting several of our buildings. Recently, we’ve seen a sharp increase in plumbing problems caused by food waste being put down kitchen sinks and garbage disposals.
While garbage disposals can handle small scraps, they are not designed for large amounts of food waste. When too much food goes down the drain, it can lead to:
- 🚿 Clogged sinks, tubs, and showers
- 💧 Sewer backups and broken pipes
- 🛠️ Delays in maintenance response due to high volume of requests
- 😟 Costly repairs—often impacting first-floor residents who aren’t the ones causing the issue
Our maintenance team is already working hard to keep everything running smoothly, but these preventable clogs are stretching resources thin.
What You Can Do:
- Please put all food waste in the trash—not down the sink.
- Use sink strainers to catch scraps and empty them into the garbage.
- Avoid pouring grease or oil down the drain—it solidifies and causes blockages.
If these issues continue, we may have to consider removing garbage disposals (where applicable) or charging a fee for drain cleaning services in affected units to prevent further damage.
Let’s work together to keep our community clean, safe, and functional for everyone. A small change in your kitchen habits can make a big difference!
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
