University Houses underwent a complete interior renovation in 2014-15, which remodeled the bathrooms, kitchens, replaced French doors, and flooring of all 140 apartments. The project also upgraded heating, networking, and electrical services in all units, and new laundry rooms were created for residents.
In June 2016, an exterior envelope repair project began to address cracked and damaged brick, remove a small amount of asbestos containing caulk from above windows, and repair or replace metal brick supports (lintels). We have also added a significant exterior lead based paint abatement component to this project to address exterior components that still have original lead-based paint.
As of November 4, 2016 the exterior brick work has been completed. We continue to work on lead-based paint removal and/or more permanent encapsulation of exterior wood elements. Starting in early April through May 2017 all columns, capitals and bases will be removed and replaced with a lower maintenance synthetic column.
University Apartments has created many documents to help explain this project to residents and we send weekly email updates to all residents in University Houses. That information will also be uploaded here for reference.
