Get to know Chef Ruthie:
“I have been a professional baker for 11 years and have worked in Housing’s Dining & Culinary Services for two years. There are too many reasons why I love baking, it’s hard to pick a favorite. I love making occasions special for people, developing new recipes, and fixing old ones. I love the tactile experience of the ingredients and love the magic of putting something in the oven and having it transform as it bakes. I love creating something every day and I have a killer sweet tooth. I think of cookie decorating as a low-pressure social activity to enjoy with friends and family around this time of year. I don’t make perfect cookies and I don’t feel like I need to. I grew up decorating holiday cookies with my dad and sister, so it’s a happy memory for me, and I like to carry on the tradition with my own kids. We bake and give away hundreds of cookies every December, just because it’s fun!”
