A Smart Return to Campus for Fall 2020

English      Español      བོད་ཡིག      中文      नेपाली      Hmoob

UW-Madison has announced plans for returning to campus in the Fall. The University will welcome students back as scheduled for the start of fall classes on September 2nd. More information on the UW-Madison Smart Restart and Returning to Campus Safely websites.

We will continue to share detailed information as it is released. Please continue to contact your supervisor and Human Resources with any questions that you may have.

“The health and safety steps we are announcing today are rigorous, thorough and backed by science. We believe they will go far in minimizing the risk to our campus community while allowing our students to return to many of the traditions and experiences that make a Badger education so valued.”

Student Employees

UW–Madison extended income continuation options to student employees to help provide income assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic and reduced campus operations.

The UW-Madison Office of Student Financial Aid and COVID-19 pages are the central campus resource for questions on COVID-19 and options for emergency assistance.

Campus provided 2 phases of income continuation for student employees:

Phase 1: Students who were employed in their student job prior to campus’s adjustment in operations received financial relief on the April 9th and April 23rd paychecks. These two payments were calculated based on campus average hours and pay of student employees, and students received this relief via Federal Work Study, Scholarship, or Lump Sum payment.

Phase 2: On Tuesday April 7th, campus announced an update to the income continuation program for student employees, including ongoing payments to work study students through May 23rd, as well as the ability for student employees to submit emergency grant requests to supplement lost income as a result of not being able to work due to COVID-19. Details of phase 2 can be found below:

Federal Work-Study Students

  • Will have their income continuation extended through May 23, 2020
  • Students are paid for 10 hours/week every two weeks at their highest rate of pay
  • Funding will continue to be provided through the Federal Work-Study program
  • Students will receive payments the same way they have received previous paychecks

Student Employees Who are No Longer Working Due to COVID-19

  • May submit a one-time emergency grant request
  • Requests should equal the number of hours that would have been worked in April

Student Employees Who are Currently Working Remotely

Students should contact the UW-Madison Office of Student Financial Aid with questions.
