University Housing will soon be welcoming nearly 9,000 new and returning students to the University Residence Halls over four main fall move-in dates that will impact campus traffic and several parking lots in the campus area. Staff and guests of the University should expect to see some delays around campus from Sunday, August 24 through Wednesday, August 27.
Parking
Parking lots located near residence halls will be used as unloading zones. Transportation Services will send email notifications to permit holders in affected parking lots. Staff with permits in affected lots will not need to relocate, but those lots will be busy and possibly full at times during move-in periods. Your patience and assistance are greatly appreciated. Please drive carefully and allow extra time for parking.
Traffic
To accommodate students and their parents as they unload their cars; the following streets/traffic flow will be affected August 24, 25, 26 and 27 starting at 7:00am each day.
- Observatory Drive from Charter Street to Babcock Drive will be restricted to primarily move-in traffic and will be one-way westbound.
- Elm Drive north from Observatory Drive will be restricted to primarily move-in traffic and will be one-way northbound.
- Dayton Street from Frances Street to Park Street will be closed to thru traffic. Access will be restricted to primarily move-in traffic and will be one-way westbound.
- Lake Street from Dayton Street to Johnson Street will be closed to thru traffic. Access will be restricted to primarily move-in traffic and will be one-way northbound. The intercity bus stop will be temporarily relocated to Johnson Street, north of Witte Hall.
Campus Bus Detours
Any campus bus detours related to move-in will be posted at Madison Metro Transit’s website.
