Air Conditioner Installations

It’s not officially summer, but the temperatures for the season have begun! The Apartment Facilities Office (AFO) is now accepting maintenance requests to install your personal Air Conditioner units.

Before submitting your maintenance request, please rnote the A/C installation fee is $50.00. This fee includes both the installation and removal in the fall. This installation also includes the high density foam to seal the AC in place and prevent bugs and moisture from getting in your apartment. Please be sure to state you accept this fee in your request. If you do not confirm the billing fee, the maintenance request will be rejected.

Eagle Heights and Harvey Street residents: you are welcome to install you’re air conditioner unit yourself. You are not required to have staff install it on your behalf, however, the service is available if you’d like. Please make sure you use proper insulating materials around the air-conditioner to prevent bugs and other pests from entering your apartment.

University Houses resident: The air conditioner needs to be properly placed in a window. To ensure safety for anyone walking near or under the AC, and to make sure the unit is positioned to drain to the exterior of the building, we provide the stand for this installation.  Our staff will install one of your personal AC units in University Houses apartments at no charge.  If you live in a townhouse in University Houses, we will install a second air-conditioner, if you choose, however, the $50 service fee will apply.

To request an A/C installation, please submit the online form here. Please note that phone and walk-in office requests are not accepted. Our office receives many requests to install A/C units, and it may take longer for our staff to fulfill your request. We will work as quickly as possible to get your units installed for a nice, cool breeze at home.

To ensure your A/C request is completed quickly, remove your air conditioner from its box and set your A/C unit in the apartment on the floor next to the A/C sleeve (usually found on the wall in the living room covered by a metal plate). The space around the air conditioner sleeve needs to be clear of furniture or other items so our staff can safely install the unit.

*Please note: University Apartments does not supply or sell air conditioner units. If you need help determining the correct AC unit to purchase for your apartment, please contact University Apartments at university.apartments@housing.wisc.edu
